Des Moines…I’ll Make Me a World in Iowa invites you to join us for a free showing of Disney's ‘The Little Mermaid' on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023 at the Century 20 Theater located at 101 Jordan Creek Parkway, Bldg. 2000, West Des Moines IA 50266 at the Jordan Creek Town Center.  Iowa’s African American Festival will present two free showings, one beginning at 6:25pm, and one at 8:15pm. Seating is limited. Tickets will be available by registration through Monday June 5 or until both showings are at capacity. 

The June 6 two-show Community Night at The Movies is an opportunity to support the need for and celebrate the positive impact of Black characters in the entertainment world.  The placemaking event will be a great occasion to watch the movie with other community patrons, have fun and fellowship. 

Having the movie’s Princess Ariel portrayed by an African American young woman has been highly anticipated by many but in the Black community it is specially lauded.  “Representation matters.  Halle Bailey as ‘The Little Mermaid’ is an iconic cultural affirmation that recognizes the value of Black beauty.” says Betty Andrews, Executive Director of the organization which highlights African American arts, culture and contributions in Iowa. “We’re presenting this movie free of charge to the community because It is important that our daughters see their Black beauty centered, our sons need to see it, and people in the broader community need to experience it as normal.”  Andrews said.

• This is a family event, and each group must have at least one adult. There is a limit of 4 tickets per registration/email. If your immediate family has more than 4 members you may email info@BettyAndrewsMedia.com for additional tickets. 

• Tickets are available for families and individuals only. Tickets are not available for organizations, agencies, clubs and groups.

• Tickets are not for resale or redistribution.

• Tickets are limited.  Once we reach capacity, we will begin a waiting list for a possible additional showing. 

• Once you register for your seats, you will need to bring your registration or QR code to the no later than 30 minutes before the show starts.

• Tickets only cover admission.  Snacks are available for purchase from the theater.
